Hey Mama, you're eating for two bodies, not bellies.

A pregnant woman's diet can determine whether her child will be burdened with obesity.  Study details are here.

My kooky diet needs work
Aside from questions about my career, the #1 query I get from people is, "How do you stay so skinny?"

The basic answer is daily exercise, of course, but my diet is certainly a part of the process.

I am an idiot when it comes to eating a healthy diet.  I don't eat breakfast. I snack on peppermint patties and almonds during the day, and I eat a large meal in the evening.

This is totally backwards from what professional dieticians tell me.

But I am a rockhead and rockheads are hard to move.

However, I have made a few subtle changes over the past decade that have dropped my weight from 195 lbs. to around 170.

I rarely eat fried favorites such as chicken, fish, and french fries.  And I have effectively eliminated soft drinks from my life.

I generally eat grilled chicken or fish, or baked turkey as staples.  I try to eat more vegetables and some occasional fruit.  And I drink diet Snapple or Starbucks non-fat milk hot chocolate.

The hot chocolate, peppermint patties, and fruit all have calories, but the fat content is manageable and the calorie count is minimal.

I still eat garbage like potato chips and dip with some regularity, but the key is to limit the amount to whatever I can eat in a few minutes.  Then put it away.

If hunger persists, go do some exercise.  Ride a bike.  Take the dog for a walk.  Do 20 pushups.

Eating and heavy breathing are not compatible partners.

Here are some links to information that may help you restructure your eating habits.

Moderation

Daily drive is necessary, but you have to be mindful of pushing an overall healthy habit into an unreasonable obsession.

Some people will let their devotion to better health lead down destructive paths toward anorexia and isolation from their loved ones.

Learn to balance all of these elements by associating with people who exercise regularly and still spend quality time with their families and friends.

It's all about moderation.  Time for health.  Time for enjoying life.

77.9
years

That's it.  That's all you get.

Better make the most of it.

The lifespan of the average American is now 77.9 years.  That's terrific, but life expectancy in the United States now ranks 42nd in the world, down from 11th only two decades ago.

Why are Americans falling behind the rest of the world?

The primary reason: Obesity.
