A MARATHON MIRACLE
Read about these Tanzanian Maasai warriors who run for 5 or 6 days straight and you will understand that running a simple marathon is an attainable goal. These warriors are running a marathon in London without water so they can provide running water for their people in Tanzania and southern Kenya. And they'll wear pieces of tires for shoes, which is traditional dress in the Maasai tribes.
Never, ever doubt the limits of human willpower.

GOTTA SERVE NEIGHBORS
ABC-TV's hit show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" recently landed in Louisville to upgrade the home of Patrick Hughes. He is the talented singer and U of L marching band trumpet player who is blind and unable to walk. His father, also named Patrick Hughes, pushes his wheelchair within the band formations.
The entire Hughes family went to London while their home was razed and replaced with a stunning 5,000 square feet palace that is totally wheelchair friendly.
Hundreds of Louisville residents volunteered on the project and donated to a fund to maintain the home. The mortgage was retired by Fifth Third Bank and several local charities.

PROPER PARENTING PAYS DIVIDENDS TO SOCIETY
He's an Ingram Scholar, a champion runner, a benevolent volunteer to the impoverished, and he's not yet 21 years old. Vanderbilt University sophomore Thomas Davis, a Louisville native, has quietly served people living in the bleakest of circumstances.
His parents led the way. He will lead his own some day.

Bob Dylan's 1977 song "Gotta Serve Somebody" is one of my life anthems.
To fully enjoy the miracle that is your life, you must experience the unbridled joy of volunteering. I suggest that you spend at least two hours per week in service to others. You could volunteer at a soup kitchen, nursing home, pet shelter, church, library, or any number of organizations that serve the community. Or you could simply spend a few hours picking up trash at a park or along a boulevard.
Pick your benefactor and get at it.
And volunteer for Louisville's upcoming massive singular events like the Ford Ironman Triathlon or the Ryder Cup Championship.
Your reward?
You'll realize it after you've completed the task.
Just go do it.

77.9 years
That's it. That's all you get.
Better make the most of it.
| The lifespan of the average American is now 77.9 years. That's terrific, but life expectancy in the United States now ranks 42nd in the world, down from 11th only two decades ago.
Why are Americans falling behind the rest of the world?
The primary reason: Obesity.
